Why say NO?

Disabled blue badge holders have to travel to and from their car to the machines

  • This can be exceptionally difficult for them if they have to park at the other end of the car park when the town centre is busy, like on Wednesdays for the market when parking on Cheshire Street is not an option and at weekends when the town centre is busier.

Disabled blue badge holders may have to park a long way, away from the town centre in limited street parking spaces

  • There are only 2 allocated disabled parking bays on Cheshire Street compared to the 15 in the main car parks and the other other parking spaces on Cheshire Street are used frequently throughout the day by other drivers, many of whom do not own blue badges.
  • This will cause greater difficulty for them as they will have to travel further to and from the town centre.

Blue badge holders may have to park in dangerous places

  • The council have said blue badge holders can park on yellow lines. However, this can be very dangerous and difficult, especially on Cheshire Street as the street is very narrow. Many blue badge holders may have to park on the pavement which could cause difficulties as the holder may not be able to get out of his or her vehicle at an angle on the curb.

It affects the local economy

  • People have already started deserting the town centre due to the high increases in parking charges, we need as many people as we can to come to Market Drayton and visit the shops.
